Meet the Expert Q&A - Shane Dean
Shane Dean has a vast experience in the industry and in-depth knowledge of The Flytec Range. In the article below, Shane talks about the new and improved Flytec Range and Atkore’s product offering.
Shane, how long have you been in the industry?
I have worked in the industry for 19 years, finishing school in 2003 and Flytec being my first employer (Now Atkore). I have 19 years manufacturing experience and over 10 years of offering onsite solutions. Product knowledge and working closely with our contractors, has allowed me to understand the customer’s specific needs.
Since taking over the Technical Site Engineer role in 2012, I have modernised our toolbox and replaced tools with either digital or laser products. This carried speed to the survey and allows me to measure more projects in one day.
Today, site measuring is niche in the market, as we offer a bespoke site visit which sets us apart from the competition. We draw, program and manufacture all under one roof, within our West Bromwich facility. The key attribute about this service is that we can project manage from start to finish, putting your project into our project planner, can help eliminate unnecessary lead times.
What are the key sustainable and innovative factors for the Flytec range?
Due to the nature of our products, all our products are 100% recyclable. We offer on the spot solutions that will allow for a speedy installation, therefore meaning time and cost savings to any project.
How does the site survey offering differ to the ones currently on the market?
First and foremost, using Atkore, I can offer you nearly 20 years’ experience of in-depth expertise on our products. Coming from the shop floor, through to sales/site measuring, allows me to visually see what I am going to purpose to the end user. It also allows me to know whether it is achievable in manufacturing or whether it will be an issue for our tooling.
We offer to help contractors and specifiers in design and application of the product used in any project, it also takes liability away from the contractor.
Every special site measured project will be delivered with site references, these are taken down at point of measure and agreed with the contractor. You will find all special products delivered with a label inside the body and inside the lid, this is because the lid is the last part to go on and can sometimes get mislaid.
Contractors and wholesalers get my undivided attention thorough the project and are regularly updated.
What are the key benefits of a Site Survey?
- On site labour saving
- Project cost saving
- A smoother, faster install meaning you can start your next project sooner
- High quality finished products, every time
- Technical help throughout the project
If there was one piece of advice that you give people or recommendations, what would it be?
Before you chose a trunking manufacture to help with your site project, make sure you do some background checks, for example, how long have they been offering the service? Ask for contractor testimonials and always ask for case studies
Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy spending time with my 2 children and going to the gym once the kids are tucked up in bed. I also enjoy going down to North Devon regularly, it is a place that I just relax.
