Atkore Marco chooses the sustainable route by launching the Zinc Aluminium Steel Wire Cable Tray reducing Zinc coverage whilst outperforming HG finish

The new Zinc Aluminium is trialed and evaluated in all types of installations and has proved that it outperforms HG across extensive applications and industries. Atkore Marco’s Zinc Aluminium Steel Wire Cable Tray is more sustainable and more eco-friendly compared to the Hot-dip Galvanised products as it is a next generation finish, pre applied to the base wire and requiring a shallower depth of surface protection layer.

Zinc is a high-performance alloy, and by adding Aluminium, it increases the longevity of the steel. As a result of this, the contribution of CO2 emissions reduces due to keeping steel in service for a longer duration of time.

Regular Hot-Dip Galvanised (HG) wires tend to experience alloy layer growth when exposed to higher temperatures. This alloy layer is the interface between the metallic coating and the steel wire. It generally contains the elements of the top coating combined with iron from the wire core.

However, coatings of Atkore Marco’s ZA range are immune to this phenomenon due to an inhibiting action of aluminium. In comparison to HDG, Zinc Aluminium gives the customer more aesthetically pleasing product and outperforms Hot Dip Galvanised finish.

Independent Salt Spray testing shows that Atkore Marco’s Zinc Aluminium Steel Wire Cable Tray lasts up to 30% longer compared to standard Hot-Dip Galvanised Tray and up to 120% longer than Electro Zinc Tray.

During the Salt Spray test, ZA Steel Wire Cable Tray lasted over 1,100 hours without the appearance of red rust, whereas HDG Steel Wire Cable Tray lasted 850 hours. (Salt Spray conducted to BS-EN ISO 9227 & ASTMB117.)
